Also known as The Valley of The Moon, the Sonoma Valley is the birthplace of California’s commercial wine industry since 1850s. There are diverse wine growing regions in this valley. Each region has its own characteristics and allows for the production of excellent wines. Here, you can find more than 10,200 acres of vineyards and more than 425 wineries. Grape varieties
Most of the vineyards in Sonoma Valley were planted more than a century ago. Of course, the Zinfandel grape variety dominates the cultivation of the vine. It is also called “heritage grape” throughout America. In the 1970s, Merlot and Chardonnay were the grape varieties that were mainly cultivated. Then, Cabernet Sauvignon established itself and became a reference in the production of American wines. However, other grape varieties are also very promising and cultivated such as Syrah, Grenache or Malbec. The valley is located between two mountains offering exquisite and peaceful beauty.
The Buena Vista Winery
In 1857, Agoston Haraszthy, a Hungarian-American, opened the first winery in California. He is known as one of the “fathers of Californian culture”. The cellar is still in operation today and you can visit it. This is the birthplace of Californian wines. It now belongs to a Frenchman, Jean-Charles Boisset, who visited the Buena Vista Cellar at the age of 11.
Kunde Family Winery
This historic family cellar has been in existence for more than a century. Five generations of the Kunde family have operated the estate, which has 1,850 acres. The family produces all types of wines thanks to the richness of the different grape varieties grown. Some wines are distributed nationally, but many are exclusive to their own tasting rooms. You can visit this winery and taste the estate’s products!
Gundlach Bundschu Winery
This winery was created in 1858. It is located on a 300-acre farm. They produce different types of high-quality wines, thanks to the family know-how that has been passed down through six generations. Nowadays, the winery focusses on making small lots of ultra-premium wines. Discover Gundlach Bundschu Winery by tasting their wines at their wine tastings and by visiting the property!

After Napa Valley, Sonoma is the largest city which is famous for wine-producing. Sonoma is also famous for grapes wine. Its grapes wine is very sweet. I also like its grapes wine. 3 years ago i have visited the Kunde Family Winery. This is my favorite place for drinking wine. Kund family have operated the estate, which has 1,850 acres.
